I've started on my second system over the weekend, this time I will be going with a CHIFT PIST (CHOP)set-up.

The components are as follows:
Fish tank 1000 litre IBC
Sump tank 1000 litre IBC cut down to 700 litres
3 bath tubs for grow beds if my calculations are correct they are about 290 litres each
3 1/2 blue barrels cut length ways, one of these will be for duckweed.
Looking at expanded clay for this set-up, the cost is a little hurtful but I figure the bathtub weigh enough without adding the weight of gravel to any stand they're on. The other option is a bed with gravel at the bottom and expanded clay at the top.

The grow beds will get basic stand pipes like by first system, so it will be a 15 flood cycle with a 40-45 minute slow drain. It is working well with what I have so I figure why change.

This system will be put onto a raised area 200mm with the sump going in at the ground level and the fish tank 200mm higher again. This should allow enough for the overflow from the fish tank and the return to the sump to function.

So far I've cut the tops off both IBC's, cut the blue barrels and roughly positioned all the components on the ground to get a feel for how it will look.
