Today we would be touring to Charleville from Toowoomba, with a planned stop at the artesian hot springs at Mitchell.
Our first stop was Darby’s bakery in Oakey for a “naughty” breakfast consisting of a pie and can of soft drink.
From Oakey be basically drove straight through to Roma and pulled up for a cold beer at The Queen’s Arms Hotel, this place has had a bit of a facelift since I was last in town. It’s looking very fresh and modern in an old country pub location. Well worth a visit for a beer or a meal.
Once again we were on the road with our next stop being the Great Artesian Spa in Mitchell. This is the first time I’ve ever stoped in after around 15 years of travel through this area. After refreshing ourselves in the spa it was time for another cold beer this time it was at the Hotel Mitchell.
The final run for the day was going from Mitchell to Charleville, we’d booked in to The Rocks Motel, it is a fairly new motel in Charleville and to be honest I think it’s very overpriced for what they offer and the location. There are cheaper options in town, especially when you are most likely only going to be sleeping there anyway.
From the motel we wandered down to the Hotel Corones a classic old time pub that was once a popular venue. The Corones was once the centre of Charleville’s social activities. If you are ever in town drop in and check out the history and have a cold beer of course.
After a couple of beers we wandered up to the local Puma service station, to grab some takeaway for tea. This place does an amazing burger that is huge and for a decent price. If you’re in the mood for a burger in Charleville it’s worth checking it out.
